How hard is the polyurethane when dry?

You can make your own substitute with toluene (available in the paint
department in the hardware store) and either Shoe Goo II red label (in the
K-Wal mart shoe department and also sometimes in the tents) or clear
Polyseamseal Pro (clear sealant in a tube available in the floor cement,
sealant part of the same hardware store). It works great thinned about 2/3
toluene to 1/3 polyseamseal Pro. But, remember, this is very hard on your
liver so if you tie in a closed space, you won't want to use this. May I
suggest water soluable Polyurethrane by Minwax in clear satin or clear
gloss. I use this..a quart is about 6.00 and lasts a very long time..and the
water washup is neat when you spill it on your bench. Joyce
