Don't know where a pattern would be, but the combination of Softex and
braided mylar tubing opens a world of 'stick-bait' patterns up for the
creative tier. I've done quite a few, even articulated, and some lipped,
like rapalas. Combine "sticks" with feathers stuck in the wet Softex,
rubber legs, etc., and a host of possibilities open up. Markers, glitter,
lots of stuff to doll up the finished 'plug'. Since they're hollow, a
larger size fly can be cast.

You can also push styrofoam pellets inside to shape the 'cigar', then tie
onto the hook- will float forever without using Softex, too. I've used
waste MyFlyfoam to stuff them- works well, too.

I've also made stick-baits (and popper heads) out of McFlyfoam. Tie a thin
cigar-shaped fly on a streamer hook, add vinyl cement, squeeze into the fly
(use gloves), squeezing out all excess, shape and let dry. The vinyl is
light and waterproofs the fly, making it bulletproof when it solidifies, but
not hard at all to the bite. Tie on feathers, legs, etc. after it dries.

My 2 cents
