"Bluegill live in warm shallow water with large
amounts of decaying plant material. these waters tend to transmit a larger
amount of red light. bluegills do not travel a long distance to strike a
lure since the are small and territorial. They tend to hold in areas with
a lot of brush and cover, so they will not become aware of a lure until it is
close. These factors make it an advantage to add non-fluorescent red
thread to jigs used for fishing bluegills."
