Don't know if everyone (or anyone) on the list has
been waiting with bated (or baited) breath for the
latest update, but here it is...hopefully the last one
for a while.
There was an article yesterday in one of the regular
columns in the Sunday "Oregonian" the Portland, OR
newspaper. Don Courtney, Chief of Police of the Warm
Springs Tribal Police stated that the officers
involved had been mistaken in their interpretation of
policy at least in one of the cases. An apology was
made and the angler's gear returned. However, it was
left up in the air as to whether or not they will
continue to issue Tribal Police citations for illegal
angling and/or trespass. Or whether or not they will
drop any of the other citations they've issued. Or
what, exactly, the tribe's rights and boundaries are
on the river. If any of you are planning on drifting
the Deschutes this season, I would recommend
contacting the Warm Springs Police Department for
clarification (541-553-1171) and maybe also checking
with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife or the
Oregon State Police.
Will try not to take up any more time on the list with
this issue. If anyone planning on fishing the
Deschutes would like more info, please let me know off
list.
Take care and good fishing.

You move and change,I move and am the same;
You move and are gone, I move and remain.
