The fish kill you're talking about was with Fire Ants. When the river floods, it gets into their nests along the shore and they will actually come out of their nests and form a huge ball, like bees in a swarm. When the trout get into them it isn't just one that they're eating , it's a whole gob. Believe me, the Fire Ant Toxin is incredibly poisonus! I have them at the ranch and in my yard here in Woodway. Can never get completly rid of them. Kill one nest out and a week later they appear again about 20 feet from original spot.
We got them here in SC to Jimmy. I was born in Killene TX and know them well. I sat on a mound when I was 5 and learned a good lesson.
