Honestly, I fish ANY type of fishing outfit as long as it dont have bait on the end.. I fish artificials 98% of the time. I find the difference isisnt in a "fly" or a "lure" rather in Tricking the fish into eating sometinhg that isint real, or feeding it! Yeah, occasionally i will chunk out some chicken livers for catfish or night crawlers for walleyes but i find the most enjoyment and satisfaction comes from fooling a fish. For trout, i PRIMARILY fish with a fly rod, although occastionally i will throw a rapala with a single hook or a little jig if flies just arent working, and tehre is nothing wrong with it. For bass, 65% spinning and 45% fly. There are times when they just wont hit a lure and i can BUST them on flies, and times when they wont touch a fly in my box but a plastic worm will have me grinning all evening! We are all fishermen. Yeah, even the bait guys are fishermen too, we all need to look at each other straight in the eyes, and realize we are all equal under god and we are all equal to the fish. I have made flies that imitate something i have fished on the short stick, and i have made jigs and etc. that look like flies. As long as i cantch fish i could care less what the egotistical snob with the pipe and 3000 fly rod thinks! Ill take my little fenwick 5wt. that i got for 100 bucks or one of my 200 buck spin outfits and have jsut a good if not a better time. My $.10, Matt.. Coming out of hiding for a while.
