ROB,
You have to do at least two seperate Epoxy jobs on such flies. The first application is mainly to work epoxy into the base of the wing. It isn't soo much about coating the base of the wing & thread it is to pull the fibers together. Once this coat sets up, You apply the Eyes, "paint" the gill slits & Then you would apply the second coat to the head/base area...since the base of the wing is already anchored with the previous Epoxy job, you won't get that wild flairing of the materials. A few other tricks to help keep the Synthitic hair under control while in the process of applying the Epoxy are; Rubber band the materials derectly behind the hook bend, Scotch tape the Materials behind the Hook....or Spray Hair spray on the wing materials past the hook bend and stroke the materials back to bind them all together. as long as you do not grab the "Hair Sprayed material to much while your epoxying the heads, the hair spray will hold the fibers together. once you've completed the epoxy job, the epoxy being dried all the way...you simple turn on the faucet & hold the fly under the running water...the hair spray will be washed off fast. This seems wierd but it does work very well... Hope all this helps.......
