OK OK, rub it in. Maybe this weekend.
Jimi
JOHN,
As much as I STRONGLY DISLIKE any & all members of PETA, I agree. so here
you go...
I woke at 4:55am... Loaded up & drove for 35 minutes to Trancas Beach. It
was the typical overcast for the Coast..(Anyone who thinks living at the
Beach means eternal Sunshine....your dead wrong!!!) I rigged up & put on my
Gortex waders , along with the Chota"flats Boots" & hit the beach. it was
desending tide, but sometimes that can mean great fishing...it just all
depends.
Working a "Orange Surf Rat" pattern I had a few "Tap-tap-taps"; a sure
sign Perch are around. 20 minutes into the fishing I hook up on Barred Surf
Perch #1... a scrappy 10 incher... Fun, Oh Yes!!!
Quickly releasing that Perch i keep working the surf, you have to ply every
place you even think remotely might hold a fish.. 6 minutes later...Bam!!
Perch #2....another 10 incher... they will always be about the same size in
any give stretch of beach. A quick release & I'm back casting away... this
time I've switched to a "Brown Surf Rat"... brown can be a deadly colour in
the local surf. Afew more casts & again another 10 inch Barred Surf
perch...(these are all guess-timents, I don't carry a tape measure, but they
are somewhat longer than my 8wts. rod handle & that goes about 8 inches...).
Perch are great because it's almost a certian that they will attack your
fly if it's in the Water... saves your butt from being aced out by
CORBINA...
The overcast is starting to burn off, it's about 9:00 am... Damn!!!
sunshine will slow down the fishing(sometimes), but even worse it brings out
the Sun Bathers,Boogie Boarders, Surfers & about every other beach comber
you can think of.... We Flyfishers LOVE overcast days, everyone else
dislikes them strongly. So now I gotta watch about every back cast so i
don't hook a beach comber... With the Sun shining bright & the tide
bottoming out and churning up the shore , the fishing dropped off to
nothing...
I left for home about 10:15 am... Tally for the day: 3 Barred Surf Perch &
one solid take that was probally a Halibut, but we will never know as it
popped off right away... all in all a FUN morning in the Surf...
DEAN...
