You could call it a "Pony Express" swap... I would be interested.

Flies and swaps. I just joined a swap on another list I hang out on, Westfly, which is a list for ff'ers from northern Cal, Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana. Before I outline the swap, let me say that the guy who started it on Westfly borrowed it from FAOL, so I don't feel like I'm plagiarizing his idea. Apparently, the FAOL swap started with tying materials, but I'm thinking we can do it with flies. The one on Westfly is for flies, too. Let's say, just for example, we start with 10 people, each person ties three flies and sends them to me. Out of the 30 flies, I take the ones I want and replace them with at least the same number I took (or more if I want). The flies I put in don't have to be the same as the ones I orginally tied and they don't have to be all the same. I then send them to the next person on the list. That person can take as many or as few flies as he wants, but he must replace them with at least as many as he takes (or more). He then sends them on to the next person who does the same and so on. The number of flies in the box will gradually increase or at least remain the same while the mix of flies will change. Remember, the flies you put in can be totally different from the flies you originally tied. Theoretically, if no one cheats the box could go around perpetually with different flies each time it comes to you. I know this sounds kind of weird, but I think it might be interesting. This wouldn't work with any group except one like VFB, since it depends on basically fair, honest, upright and just plain fine folks, exactly the like the ones on this list. Anyway, if there's any interest in this, let me know. If anyone has any suggestion, please say so. Don't want to have too many restrictions or rules, would like to keep it to trout flies and of course no ridiculously easy flies, since it's not fair to everyone else. If you think this a crazy idea, don't hesitate to say that, too. Once the box has gone around a few times, we could, with the vote of everyone involved, donate the flies to a cause or maybe auction them off and donate the money to TU or FFF or or the Boy Scouts or see just how long we can keep it going. Okay, that's it. Please post your responses to the list so everyone can get a feel for how this crazy idea goes over. If it looks like there might be enough interest (I'm thinking at minimum ten people), I'll post a deadline and so on. One last note, 10 participants was just a "for instance" kind of thing. I we had say, 25 tiers at 4 flies each, it would make a real nice variety to start out with. -John Oregon ===== The River- You passers-by, who share my journey, You move and change,I move and am the same; You move and are gone, I move and remain. __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
