First of all, I want to thank all of you who joined up. When I posted it, I thought there might be maybe a dozen or so wanting to join in. The response has been overwhelming...literally. <VBG>
Which brings me to the first concern. With so many people involved, this may turn into the Slow Motion Fly Box Swap. Even if the pass-through time (the time it gets from one person's hands to the next person's hands) is only one week, which isn't likely at all, it will still be nearly a year before the last person on the list gets the box. So, if it's okay, I think I will split the list in half or maybe even thirds. I'll still coordinate and keep track of everything and of course the same rules apply. Let me know if anyone feels splitting the swap will create a problem. In the same vein, there's been a concern expressed about overseas mail delivery and customs and long delays due to them. My first thought was to have out of country (other than USA) participants last on each list, but somehow I don't feel that's very fair and it still doesn't speed things up to get the boxes back here and on the second leg of their journeys. If any of you have any ideas on how to speed this up, I'd appreciate it and I'm sure everyone else would, too. Maybe having all the overseas swappers together so once it's, say, in Europe, everyone there will get a shot at it so it's not back and forth from US to Europe back to US and then back to Europe again. Jeff Frye had a suggestion regarding how to keep things moving. Since everyone will know ahead of time where they are on the list, they can be prepared by having flies already tied up and ready to go. He also suggested using the priority 2 day mail available thru the post office. Cost is $3.50 for which you also get a box, everything can be pre-labeled and ready to go. Pick you flies, put in the new ones and get the box going. Martin Lamar mentioned that we should get insurance on the box each time it goes out. With 200 plus flies in circulation, that's a retail value of over $400 (unless you shop where Joyce does <VBG>). Anyway, both Jeff and Martin's ideas are good ones. As far as keeping track of who tied what. Since everyone has a list number, just send me your name and pattern recipe off list. When you send your flies tag them only with your number, when you put new ones in, they can be 1a, 1b, 1c (for example) and so on. Then just send me the recipe for the new flies and I will post it to the website. This was Jeff's idea also. Thanks for bearing with me, sorry if this email is kind of rambling, this is my first time out as a swap cooridinator and it's way more than I had figured on, not complaining mind you, but I sure have even more respect for the hosts of all the swaps I've been in before. Once I get the website up, I hope to have everything in one place for everyone to check on. If you have any questions, email me. ===== The River- You passers-by, who share my journey, You move and change,I move and am the same; You move and are gone, I move and remain. __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
