Thanks for the info Roger, but after looking at the pictures of the Zebra Mussels they 
were not what I was seeing on the Green.  These were definetly snails, very small ones 
about 1/8th inch long.  They are suposed to be very prolific with one snail being able 
to produce up to a million eggs a year.  Suposedly after they are established in a 
body of water they will dominate the ecosystem literally blanketing the vegetation in 
the water.  There are so many of them that the fish key on them as a food source.  
Because the digestive system of the trout will not break down the shells of the 
snails, the fish starve.

I probably got the name wrong, or remembered the name from somewhere else, a whiskey 
fog maybe.
