I've made use of the philoplume from a hungarian partridge skin before. The stuff is actually pretty neat. On this bird, the stuff is really dense and moves in the water similar to really short marabou. I've tied a few nymphs out of it, but I really haven't experimented very extensively with the stuff. Philoplume is sort of like the down section of the feather, but like I said, its really dense stuff.

I've heard it described this way although my spelling may be suspect. This is the smaller softer feather that is often behind and at the base of the hackle you pluck out. It has its uses .
