Hi Eddie I would purchase a neck because it will give your friend a wider range of hackle sizes to tie with. The extra large hackles can be used on streamers etc. Also the large hackles can be stripped to make quill bodies. You also get some spade hackle which is great for tailing dry flies. If you can get a copy of AK Bests, Advanced Fly Tying , he has some excellent info on purchasing hackles and he explains the economics of his ideas. Regards Mel Hocken
