Mornig folks,
Deb's friend at the university helped to identify my Mayfly. I have
included the identification below. Now I would like to ask if anyone has any
patterns to imitate the life cycle of it. From nymph to spent. I would like
to know of any patterns or recipes including any extended body patterns. A
distinguishing aspect of it is the 3 tails. I suspect that this may also be
found in some trout waters to the west of us but am not sure.
Thanks,
Jimi
Good morning Jim, sorry I'm getting back to you so late. Jim after reading
your e-mail I believe this mayfly is from the order,Paraleptophlebia
bicornuta, Mahogany Dun. The most identifing characteristics regarding this
fly is it's three tails and size. Hatches late August to October and if the
weather is warm, even late into the season. In rivers it will live in gentle
riffles and spring creeks. Ponds and lakes emerges morning, spinners fall in
evening, again depending on the time of year and weather. Size #18 & #16's
dark brown body unmarked wings. Hope this will help! Write anytime! Tight
Lines, and have a Happy Holiday Season!
