PS. I have yet to tie into a SW fish that required a 9 wt

Try a 60 lb. tarpon. I built a 9 wt. first because I knew I was gonna run
into these from time to time. It may be a little heavy for smaller fish,
(i.e. bones, reds), but when it's blowing 20-30, it'll get flies out there
when a smaller rod won't.
Since then I've built a 7 and a 12 so I can match the rod to the fish and
conditions, but I still like a 9 wt. if that's your only big rod.
