I've tried both a 5 and a 6 weight fishing for Lake
Trout in the Yukon using a weighted wool head sculpin or a bead head
leech -- and I really noticed the difference -- I beat the rod all to hell
with the weighted fly using a 5 weight -- but a 6 weight had enough backbone to
cast the bigger and heavier flies and still allow the fish to put up a good
fight. I would rather have a 4 weight for fishing nymphs and dries and a 6
weight for fishing the bigger fish with bigger flies. I've got a 5
weight -- but I don't use it nearly as much as the 4 and 6.
