One the best mags out there is the Mid Atlantic Fly Fisherman, available at most of your better local fly shops in MD, PA, VA, CT, NJ, NY. Best part of all, it's free. Comes out once a month, except for November-December.

In the mail today somes some flyer that says free introductory issue blah blah. Im sure you guys know the scheme. My question is, has anyone heard of fly rod and reel magazine and is it worth getting? its 12 bucks a year but I dont want to waste my money on a bad magazine. What Fly Fishing(or even better fly tying) magazines come out monthly or bi-monthly? Thanks for all the help!

It seems like I am in good company...I let my subscription to Fly Tyer lapse. Haven't missed it. I do occasionally buy a copy...not often. The only fly tying mag that I subscribe to as of now is Fly Fishing and Fly Tying (this is the UK magazine...not the journal from the states). It has maintained a high degree of quality (compared to many of the other paper-sinks out there). This magazine definitely leans toward the UK styles of fly patterns/techniques, etc. (shocker!)...but it is very interesting and has some great techniques. I have used some of the flies offered in FF&FT over here with varying degrees of success (note - I have also used my flies with varying degrees of success). It is a bit more expensive, but, in my opinion, worth the price. If anyone is interested, check out the website at http://www.flyfishing-and-flytying.co.uk/. Best to all. Chris
