I use an 18' fiberglass canoe. It has a flat transom to attach an electric motor or small engine although I've never used that feature, as I like to paddle. My canoe has a wide beam designed for camping and storing gear, with a wooden support beam in the center. It weighs about 150 lbs. I usually haul it on racks above my car but my folks once had a trailer fabricated for it for their own use. The trailer had side containers to put the oars, electric motor, and other things. I've used the canoe throughout the Pacific Northwest and the Sierras in both lakes and streams . Being so heavy, it's easier to use with two people than one. Flyfishing from the canoe is a sit-down operation but is really enjoyable, especially if you are into midging. Frequent casting and stripping can be annoying due to the rocking of the canoe. I also do a lot of float tubing and fishing from my bass boat, so the canoe has it's place depending on the water I'm visiting.
