Today's quote is taken from the writings of Teddy Roosevelt as he described shooting grouse for food. I have taken his quote and re-written it for those of you on the VFB, FFW and Hill Country FF Lists. Hope you enjoy it.

"I saw the enormous trout feeding in shallows near the bank, absolutely oblivious to my presence. Being without food for the better part of three days, I reached down and grabbed the big fellow by the tail and holding him tight, hurried back to my camp, my mouth watering at the prospect of freshly cooked trout.

Now, of course I would not have dreamed of taking that approach had I been out purely for sport, for it required no more skill than would be shown in shooting fish in a barrel. But after all, when one is fishing for one's life, he takes and interest in his success which he would otherwise lack, and on this occasion, I felt a most unsportsman-like glee regarding my catch."

Rewritten from Teddy Roosevelt's treatise on Grouse hunting.
