OK-i know what you mean. I tie a similar fly
Hook...10 to 16 downeyed shrimp hook
Body...black tying thread from well round bend of hook
Rib....silver wire narrow turns on rear three quarters of hook
wing cases..bright orange turkey biots tied in by thick end
facing backwards on each side of hook 1/4 of body length from
eye, tied off to come together above body behind eye.
Paint all of fly with epoxy or 2 coats superglue
variations...use green or yellow biots

Hi Iain,
I picked up this thread when our American cousins were talking
about using wrappers as fly tying materials. I remarked that in
the UK the vivid orange of a crisp packet is used for the wing
buds of a fly . Ashley was able to complete the picture- epoxy
midge. I have not had much luck using these flies. Maybe I have
been fishing them wrong. Certainly the magazines seem to swear
by them but they seem to talking about rainbow fisheries. The
wild browns I fish for seem to prefer a fly with a bit more
movement - at least a hen hackle. All the best Graeme.

Re:Orange crisp packets.
i missed the start of this thread.

iain
