Also, for beginner tyers, such as myself, I find that swaps let you tie many of the same pattern and as such you get really acquainted with certain tying methods and improve your skills.
Someone once said "practice makes perfect" and with all this repetitive tying your flies are bound to improve. At least that's what I keep trying to tell myself.
