The Sandy Mite and other "Mite" patterns use horse tail hair. I haven't seen one for a long while. The body was wrapped with horse tail, but the collar was woven. I never knew how to do it. I don't know if this is a local pattern.

This fly, almost a compulsary pattern on the Big Lost river, is tied with horse hair and red wool. The body is semi-woven, with a palmered furnace hackle. The remaining hair folded back over the body in a down wing.
