STEVE,

Culver City was named for some well to done Land owner named Culver, thought i like the Culvert theory better.

The Tarantulas are California Blacks, rather Harmless, but certian to scare all sorts of folks.

Ah Yes, the Famous Cement bound Los Angeles river & it's cement bound Tributaries.. I've seen pictures from the late 30's/Early 40's of gents holding 10 pound Steelhead caught out of the L.A. River... makes you wanna cry when you see it's condition nowadays...Damn Sad state it's in today...

Dean,

I used to live in Culver City. My office was about a block off of Sepulveda Blvd. They tore down a building next door, and nature imediately started to take over: horrible stickery vines, and tumble weeds mainly. Next some very large doves came in, and then a pair of hawks started feeding on the doves. Next there were burrowing owls and rattle snakes. All in about 6 months. Really cool area. Of course the river was in a concrete trench (was this the culvert that the city was named for?) But cool none the less. I had a lizard about 12 inches long living in my rubber tree in my back yard, and tarantulas as big as my hand in all of the bushes and banana trees.
