Hi VFB,

Finally got back to the vise after a layoff to feed other diversions. As usual questions popped up for the VFB experts...

I am currently tying minnow bodies from a fascinating material called Saap Body Fur. The stuff almost looks like short sparkly fringe you would use in a dance costume. Once you get the hang of it, building streamer bodies by palmering the fringe around the shank goes really quickly. You spend more time being a barber trimming the body to shape. Then you use art markers to color the body to suit your needs. My only source for Body Fur is the Dan Bailey catalog.

A stillwater float tubing trip last October proved the effectiveness of patterns using this stuff.

Question: does anyone know what material Body Fur is made of? It looks like it could be a heavy grade tri-lobal antron or maybe a very shiny nylon, but I'm not sure. The fibers have the weight of Aunt Lydia's yarn, as a comparison. There are also thin pearl flash fibers built into the material, which comes in 26 colors including four 'hot' colors.
