Byard and the pluckers

Greetings to all !  (meant to send this much earlier but have been very busy...)

Well, two weeks ago Saturday, February 15th, was an interesting as well as surprising fly tying day for me.  I was down at Jimmy's All Seasons Angler, our local pro shop here in Idaho Falls, for the usual Saturday morning coffee & donuts, and fly tying demonstration.  That week it we were fortunate enough to have Paul Stimpson and his very talented fly tying wife Char there showing us patterns of the late Gary LaFontaine.  This was absolutely fascinating, as well as enlightening, to watch Paul tie with the Whiting hackles.  Well lo and behold when I stopped by the mailbox on the way home, there they were, my alotment of feathers from the Co-op #2 swap!!!  What a pleasant surprise, after listening to the rest of the participants raving about theirs all week.  These are no doubt, the most incredible hackles in existence, and will be a pleasure to tie with.  I was in desparate need of some decent small hackle, now that I'm back up here where a lot of the dries used are small ones, and even some of the larger ones use a smaller hackle for ribbing over dubbed bodies and such.  I'm excited.

I wish to take this opportunity to thank Byard Miller for orchestrating this whole thing, and the "pluckers" for making it happen.  Also thank you to Don O for his input and coaching.  I hope to have the opportunity to meet you at the Expo here in Idaho Falls in April.  And certainly Dr. Tom Whiting, who I will contact separately as suggested by Don, for doing such a fine job with the birds, setting the standard for the industry.

"Byard and the pluckers...,"  Doesn't that sound like the name of a bluegrass band or something like that? :-)

Thank you all, and happy tying!
