John,
I haven't tried loop to loop at this connection I've always used a knot
(surgeon or equiv.). I like to fish the first few flies on a new leader
until it has shortened just a bit then add new tippet while still in the
original tippet. Like byard I usually go through one or two leaders a season
per line.
Still think I'll give the furled ones a try though.

Jim

Subject: [VFB] last leader question i promise

> One last leader question. Could I take a tapered mono leader and cut it
about 5 inches before the major change in size, in other words almost to the
last bit of the tippet? Do this then in the last bit of tippet remaining
put a loop knot. Then make a loop knot in my tippet material . Has anyone
done this, and how would this be any different from the loop to loop
connection on a furled leader.
