I live about 20 minutes from downtown D.C. in the Maryland suburbs. We have a pair of
nesting bald eagles that I drive past on a daily basis. This is the coolest thing
I've seen in my life. I love to see the wild reasserting itself. The only thing
missing now is the quail.

Quail used to be ubiquitous in this area. You could go out and whistle and get an
answer any evening. They're gone now. Geese land in my yard all the time. They're
new.

We saw a coyote last summer, so I guess they're moving in. Also last summer, on a
campout in Central Maryland, we were talking to a couple from New Jersey who had
relocated their campsite from Shenandoah National Park in VA. They had returned to
camp after a day away, and found a cougar lying on top of their camper. Scarey, but
way cool.

In Maryland
