Steve sayeth,
The only thing missing now is the quail.
Quail used to be ubiquitous in this area. You could go out and whistle and get an answer any evening. They're gone now.

And then:


We saw a coyote last summer, so I guess they're moving in.

Hoc ergo sum. That's Latin for, "I betcha them coyotes loved them quail!"


Quail have disappeared in this area too. But the coyotes are flourishing.

Of course, quail are ground-nesting birds and coyotes have great noses.

That's just my illogical jump to conclusions.
