[VFB] Bottom Bumper

Can anyone suggest an effective bottom bumping pattern for Winter 
Steelhead?  I have an opportunity to do a float and have never fished 
for these critters.  All my existing steelhead stuff is for swinging in 
the film for summer run fish, and my fishing partner says for winter 
run, it's bottom dredging that's most effective. BTW, his close friend 
caught an 18-pounder last trip.
