Re:Drag for wood reel
I will describe the drag on the wood reel I have from the 20's,
hope this makes sense.

The hole for the spindle on the face of the spool is enlarged
to take a brass washer.
A greased cork disc the same diameter is placed on the spindle.
A thick brass washer is placed on next.
A brass wing nut is wound onto the externally threaded end
of the spindle.
The end of the spindle is drilled and tapped to hold a brass
machine screw, the screw head is larger than the center of the
wing nut, this stops the wing nut from falling off.

Tighten the wingnut onto the brass washer this compresses the
cork disk and gives you a smooth adjustable drag.
