Kool Aid is permanent. I just did some orange, just with orange flavor Kool aid. Take the feathers off the hide, and rubber band them together by the quill. You won't have to worry about greasy chicken skin.
Put the finished wet feathers in a collander or other strainer, cover it with some cheese cloth held on with a rubber band, and blow dry them. They come out very supple.
