Do not throw it out..anything that is wet can be salvaged. The trick is to
do it quickly. You can put feathers, such as marabou, in the legs of an old
pair of nylon panty hose, tie the legs and top shut and throw them in the
dryer. Be sure to separate the colors as they do fade onto each other ..and
be sure to clean the dryer good with some dilute Clorox spray before putting
any clothes in it. The same thing works well with necks and saddles..but
does often leave a layer of grease, so I prefer to simply string an inside
clothes line, or if you are fortunate enough to have a lingerie dryer, the
kind that has a bit of nylon net and stands on four legs, place your necks,
saddles, etc on paper towels on that so the air can circulate well. The
really expensive necks and saddles I would simply blow dry with the hair
dryer, being careful not to get the dryer too close to them as the dryer
will shut off if you get it too close. You can also string a temporary
clothes line and clip the necks and saddles by the skin piece to that. The
important thing is to get everything out of its bag and drying as quickly as
possible so it doesn't rot or mildew. Old newspapers work well and you can
even pin saddles and necks to pieces of cardboard boxes with the stainless
steel quilter's pins..don't use non-brass or standard pins as they will
rust.
