Group,
I am back from a few days fishing the Low O. Dean Endress gave me a lot
of advice before we left and the trip was awesome. My wife and I were
fishing together and this would be her first trout on a fly in a river.
We stayed at the Elms motel in Bishop, Ca., I need to remember to bring
an air mattress next time as it was the hardest mattress I've ever tried
to sleep on!
Ok on to the fishing! We fished the Catch and release section below the
Pleasant Valley campground. About a 1/4 mile below the campground was a
gravel bar, here is where I started my wife fishing. It was very simple
(after you got the hang of it)nymphing, an indicator, 1 #4 split shot, a
#18 bead head Pheasant tail nymph (bhptn), and last a #18 caddis pupa.
It was "flop the whole works up stream, give it an upstream mend and
fish it till it gets completely downstream of you". My wife doesn't like
to wade , so the gravel bar we started on worked out well. It had a nice
2 feet deep run that fell off a shelf into a deeper section and the fish
were laying just off the drop off. Marilynn ended up with 4 browns and I
honestly don't remember how many I caught in 2 days of fishing we did.
We both caught some great fish and had a great time on the Low O. Thanks
again Dean for your help! We didn't try the gorge section but will try
next trip , and there will be another trip!
Maybe we west coasters ought to do a get together this fall?

All the fish except one were caught on my caddis pupa, Here's the
pattern:

Hook: #18 Mustad 80200br curved caddis hook
Thread: 8/0 Black
Body: Caddis green Quick descent dubbing
Head: 2 turns of dark brown Ostrich herl
