Got out later than usual this morning.  Today is my wife's birthday and wanted to spend sometime with her.

When I got to the pond I was having trouble catching very many fish.  Nothing I was doing was seeming to work. I did notice that the new lily pads were starting to unfold their leaves on the surface.

I also noticed that the did not always move the same way that the breeze was blowing. Time to put a lfy near one of them.

Every time I cast near a lily pad I would get a fish.  I might get two or three off of a pad.  It was wild and fun.

I think the crappie were spawning on the stalks.  Several that I brought in were spewing eggs.  Also caught alot of green sunfish ( aka rock bass) that must have been eating the eggs.

Also caught some crappie that were crusing just under the surface.  I saw a few bugs come off but was not close enough to see what they were.

Totaled over 100 crappie, green sunfish and bass for 3 hrs fishing.

Then came home and worked on my garden.

Ate some crappie fillets tonite.
