I have a tying problem. I am tying big tape wing caddises ala Doug Swisher, and am in need of big, long grouse feathers to tie big, long caddises. The typical packet of grouse feathers at the fly shop has maybe a half dozen usable feathers at most. The rest are puny little things. I am looking for the brown color and especially the random mottling these feathers have.
I am thinking my only recourse is to buy a full grouse skin, but if there is any other solution or source where I can get better feathers, I would go there first.
