Thats because it is showing you it is an adult cat now not a kitten. Yhe way humans treat cats tends to keep them as kitten like as possible (Awww int that cute...Whos a little itsy witsy den??). Kittens will kill mice and take them to their mother to show her they can hunt and take care of them selves. Humans restrict their development.
We ofton try to restrict the development of our children in the same way...the next time tour teanage daughter walks past you wearing something "totally unsuitable" and you start shouting that she "aint going out wearing that"!! just be pleased she aint leaving a half eaten deer or sheep on the mat
