I saw the report in the local newspaper. Oregon's unemployment currently is 8.5% (Mississippi is 7.0%) according to most recent US Dept. of Labor stats. In Oregon 157,800 people are out of work. (Fisheries, forestry, manufacturing, tourism and high tech are all in a slump, and local governments and school systems are letting people go in wholesale quantities.)
