---Yesterday I went to one of my favorite fishing places, a lake maintained by my
county, and stocked by the DNR with trout and bass, and recently with tiger muskies to
combat the crazy little bank fish some. The lake has a good population of native
perch, crappies, blue gills, carp and catfish as well. You always catch a lot of fish
there.

As some may recall, I fish from a wheelchair, so good, accessible fishing is rare.
This lake has a board walk set about 40 feet out into the lake that goes entirelly
around it's 50 or so acres. About 1/3 is in a marsh, and you can see all the marsh
critters from there, including beaver, deer and muskrat. There are nesting ospreys,
swans, geese, ducks, and several species of heron.

Yesterday, inside of 50 yards of shore line, we counted about 100 dead fish, of all
the species mentioned. Including carp, which can live in an outhouse. The whole area
stank from the death.

I called the DNR, and within 1/2 hour there was a man there testing the water. I
noticed signs on the shore that warned pedestrians that the area had been sprayed with
pesticides, and to keep off the grass. I wonder if they sprayed just before one of
our recent heavy rains, and it washed the crap into the water? The DNR man took some
samples of the water and the fish, and some kind of scum that was on the water. The
carp were actually at the surface, gulping air. DNR thinks it may be some kind of
Oxygen shortage, but won't know for a while. He's sending a contract fish kill
specialist there today.

It's a shame to see such a mess.
