Dave, The very first line of the very first posting I made on this subject was:
"It's okay to come from California, just check your attitude at the door." That's the way I feel about it. But I have tried to explain why there is a deep-seated resentment of Californians by not a small number of Oregonians. When the anti-Californian sentiment was really high maybe seven years ago, there were even news reports about people vandalizing cars with California plates. These sorrowful incidents happened in the Illinois Valley area, if I remember right. Thankfully, that sort of garbage has stopped, but you have to wonder about anger that rises to that level of property destruction. If you showed up next to my campsite at Hosmer Lake, I would respond in a friendly manner, talk your ear off about the fishing, and probably send you away with a couple of good flies to try. People here are friendly to people who are friendly. But it should be understandable that many are guarded and protective of what they view is a rapidly crumbling quality of life. Fair or unfair, the deterioration is associated with the tidal wave of new residents who have cashed in their chips in California and moved north. And way too many of them couldn't bear to leave California behind them.
