My thanks to Don O, Eric & Jimmy for the assistance on locating Creeks to target Greenback Cutthroats(O.CLarki Stomias) in Colorado. I should certianly be able to find afew easy hiking distance streams within afew hour's drive from Denver. Jimmy, I completely forgot about your site with a wealth of Information & folks to contact..I apologize about that, you would think I'd have remember that site since i'm listed on it....
This will make the 3rd sub-species of Cutthroat on my Native Trout list. I already have Lahontan Cutthroat (O.Clarki Henshawi) & Sea-Run Cutthroat (O. Clarki Clarki) on my list. I actually may be adding the Greenback as my 4th species as i might try a 6 mile hike to attempt a Paiute Cutthroat(O.Clarki Seleniris) on the week long trip I'm leaving for on Saturday august 2nd. I am going into the Desolation Wilderness near lake Tahoe for the Lake Trout/Mackinaw I've mentioned before... But Doubt we'll spend the entire week in that area.. so a 2 hour drive south down the eastern flank of the Sierras will put me at a trailhead that leads to a stream belows some rather obsecure Falls.
Above the Falls is nothing but Paiute Cutthroats, however, to protect the Sub-species there is no fishing allowed. Fine with me, I can deal with that...since it is protecting the rare sub-species. However, enough Pure Paiutes make it safely down the falls(actually a series of plunge pools- you can get down them, impossible to swim up them.that one can have a good chance at catching a pure Pauite from the more numerous Cutt-Bow hybrids..Fishing is allowed below the falls... For any over night trip it should prove interesting...
Anyway thanks to the three of you for your assitance.. Also Hans..I shall bring a box of my Flies for your site... Just don't clock me upside the head with an 8 wt. for being late with them...I don't look good with an 8 wt. stuck in my skull....
DEAN....
