We have a lot of muddy water out here in MD, so i was just curious ot know if anyone knows some good patterns for muddy waters, especially for smallies. Is it that bright flashy patterns are best or are there some good ones for dirty waters?

Hi Junaid,

The most visible color for these conditions is black. Flash usually helps unless you run into a pondful of fish where that puts them off. You should have patterns tied both ways: black with flash, black without. Also, sometimes patterns using rubber legs help as the fish's lateral line picks up the vibrations enabling them to zero in on their next meal.

A fly like Andy Burk's Aggravator (in black) would be ideal.

Andy also ties this in a larger, all black, conehead version for the big nasty fish.

No one can compare to Mark Twain when it comes to wit. When Twain was around 40, some genius got the bright idea of sending questionnaires to all the leading intellectuals of the day, asking them deep questions about life. The scheme broke down after he read Twain's entries. In answer to, "What is your favorite object in nature?" Twain replied, "Pie."
