This summer I acquired a pontoon/kickboat. I have not had it on "moving water" as yet, but will be fishing the Paluxy River next month.
My question is this.
When drifting in/on a watercraft, does the flyline and the watercraft drift at the same rate of speed?
Gary,
Simple answer:
Sometimes yes, sometimes no.Observe the different currents around a mid-stream rock -
1) moving slowly into the rock,
2) moving fast around the sides of the rock,
3) Little or no movement or even moving upstream behind the rock.Observe the back eddies behind logs.
Observe fast runs next to practically non-moving shallows at the edges.
Probably more often than not, the boat and line are moving at different speeds and you'll need to mend line just as if you were wading.
