Let me rephrase my question to avoid confusion.

Isn't a Montana Nymph a good fly for catching Salmon?

Salmon flies vs. Salmon Fly ? Sound confusing? It was for me.

For some reason, stone flies , especially larger stone flies like
Pteronarcys californica, are also called salmon flies. I don't really
know why.
Maybe the big hatches coincide with the height of a salmon run.
Maybe the locals thought that only a salmon could eat something that
big! (Those suckers are huge!)
Maybe they just couldn't pronounce Pteronarcys.
We may never know.

Nevertheless , Big stone fly "salmon fly" is not the same as
traditionally tied Atlantic Salmon fly.

We should ask Renee "Is a Hamburger (man from Germany) really a
hamburger( see "Mac Donald's") ?

Somethin' like that.......
