I tied tube flies for a small swap, and Iain Short sent me a blind eye salmon hook to use. Stick it in the vice, than slide the tube over that, and your set. Seemed to work great for me!

Rob, I have an upcoming article on tying tube flies in The Canadian Fly
Fisher. However, in the meantime, here are a couple of hints:
1) use Q-Tips for plastic tubes; just make sure to buy the hollow ones.
2) Once you have the plastic tube, find a piece of wire just smaller
than the inside diameter of the tube. Bend one end of the wire into a
circle, this is held in the vise jaws. Cut the other end so that the
straight portion of the wire is about a half-inch longer than the tube.
With a tool of your choice, flatten a spot on the straight part of the
wire near the circle end - this holds the tube from rotating when it is
jammed against the flat spot.

Now you're away to the races.

Cheers,
Paul
