    I've never used one, but I think if you are standing very deep in the water you will get a loop going down in the current and will increase the drag and shorten your cast. Have you tried to hold the loops in your mouth.(Just in the lips.)

Made by STH and sold by Cortland.  worked pretty well for short casts in freshwater.
