I know it is "old fashioned" but I like to tie with the color thread that I want the main body hue to be.
That's the way I was taught too.
but many of my customers claim that my flies catch more fish than do those of the competitors..and I think the main difference is the foundation color of the thread.
Personally, I think it's got more to do with the skill of the tyer than the thread. I've seen Joyce's flies!
