I dare say that if you tied them Orange, you'd catch just as many!  My logic is that you catch more gills on the red-headed flies because you fish them more often. DUH!!!

And a local smallmouth guide told our club that he is convinced a fly with orange will catch more smallmouth.  After the meeting, one of our members tested his theory.  Here's an excerpt of what he wrote:

"The last two weeks I have taken previously tied Drake's Minnows and re-wrapped the thread with orange - even did a couple with orange larvae lace. ...........  and found that the orange "flavored" flies were consistently more productive."

There's now a run on orange thread in the area.  <g>
