First Off, thank you Dave,Ed & Deb for support, as well as Joyce...I hope they get your fire out soon Joyce...
Dean, (and list)
Dean, as you know I am about 90 miles SE of you in Temecula, but we are getting hit here too! On Sat. a buddy and I were at Green Valley Lake, which is just east of Lake Arrowhead, for a weekend of fishing. At about 5:30 pm all power went out to the area. About 3 hrs. later they called for a voluntary evacuation so we headed down the mountain on hwy 330. The fire line was about 1/2 mile down the hill with wind gusts to 45 mph fanning the flames furiously. As we crossed the 10E-215S overpass, (it's about 100 ft high) we could see a ring of fire extending over 20 mi.
On Sun. after church Gloria and I were taking a drive through wine country when I saw smoke to the east and I decided to check it out. (I've been with Orange Co. Search & Rescue for 22 yrs. and fire-line certified by USFS) Upon arrival the fire was at about 100 acres and being fanned by 30+ mph winds. There was no stopping it. When we left the scene about 2 hrs later it was by an alternate route, as our path in was blocked by fire. Our exit was on a road with fire on both sides, and tankers dropping foscheck on it as we left. My wife was NOT impressed! I will hear about it for a long time. As of early this morning that fire ( the Mountain Fire) is contained at over 10,000 acres.
I just learned that our cabin on the south fork of the Santa Ana River is under mandatory evacuation. The fire has reached the Seven Oaks Dam at the bottom of our valley. Our cabin is about six miles above this. At this point all we can do is pray..............
