OK,
1980 Datsun 4X4 King Cab. With a toper of about the same vintage. Have a
"Roof" modified rack from a 1966 Ford Country Squire station wagon on the
topper for the canoe. Have 3" PVC tubes inside the top of the toper for
rods, carry an old craftsman toat box full of tools along with spare fuel
filter, # 1-0 jumper cables, a screw jack and 4 way. Can load the wife and
daughter + 1 of her friends and head out at 26 miles per gallon and fish a
weekend. Also carry an "Emergency" pack at all times with Raman noodles,
canned corn beef, a stainless steel cook set, 1 dome tent and wool blankets,
3 knives of various sizes and about 100' of strong rope or parachute cord
and a flint and steel outfit. Also have 3 emergency blankets, matches and
candles in the cab. When headed to the mountains or on long road trips
include a duffel bag with MRE's, canned soup, crackers, chocolate bars and
dehydrated fruit and veggies with some TVP and at least 5 gallons of water
and a lot of instant coffee. Now I know I forgot something but believe me,
it is somewhere in the truck, ( I just need to find it).

After I put out today's quote, I thought it might be fun to query the
list as to what each of you use for your fishing car/truck. I'm sure
this will run the gamut from ragged pick ups and cars to family
cars/trucks to "custom" fishing vehicles and for the rich ones, maybe a
HUMMER. LOL ! I'm just wondering what modifications have you made, if
any, to your fishing vehicle to ease your trip to and from the stream
and your overnight camping while fishing. Mine is a 1996 4-door F350
diesel pick up. I've added a big locking aluminum tool box on the bed,
just behind the rear window. Here I carry a floor jack, 4-way lug
wrench, heavy duty jumper cables, and a 10X12 tarp, just in case it's
needed. Also I have my streamside fly tying kit, a sleeping bag, air
mattress, pop-up dome tent, propane stove, Boy Scout Patrol cook kit, an
extra fuel filter for the truck and an assortment of wrenches, etc. I
also put all my fishing gear that I won't use except my fly rods, which
I store out of sight behind the rear seat. Don't want to run the chance
of having my truck broken into when someone spies my fishing gear, like
what happened to Del Roberts earlier this year.

LEMME HEAR FROM YOU - What's your fishing vehicle ??? Any modifications
???

Have a Great Day

P.S. YES, I'M STILL A PRISONER IN MY OWN HOME - NO DRIVING, RIDING, ETC.
TILL I go see my doc on the 12th. Hopefully he'll clear me to resume my
normal activities. So . . . like I said earlier, I tie flies, manage
the three swaps I'm currently meistering, play on the computer and
lastly aggravate you guys. Hey - a guy's gotta do what he's gotta do!
