Hmm. I find this Mustad bashing interesting. While I have several varieties of Pacific Rim hooks and admire their quality, I still mostly buy Mustad, mainly because they are anywhere from 20% to 50% cheaper than the designer brands.

To the best of my knowledge i have only lost one fish due to hook failure (the fine wire dry fly hook bent straight). I doubt I have thrown away more than a half dozen hooks because of poor manufacture, but I have LOST several hundred fishing! In fact, I bet the average life span of most of my flies is one or two fishing trips, so "quality" really isn't an issue. I figure flies are like bullets, if you worry too much about losing them you are going to miss some nice fish that hang out in snaggy places. Besides that, I NEED to lose a million or so so I can start saving money tying my own flies...

IAIN,

It just got to the point where it was like gambling when you'd purchase Mustads... you had a 50/50 chance of getting Junk....
